Applying to university made easy. We explain how it works!
Between application, admission, and enrollment, it can be easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. On this page, we explain step by step what you need to keep in mind, which deadlines you need to watch, whether and when costs arise in the process, and who can apply to study with us at all (spoiler: people without an Abitur also have the opportunity to be admitted to study with us. How it works is explained further below).

What do I need to consider before starting my studies?

Step 1: Find your desired degree program
We offer more than 20 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in the fields of fine arts, eurythmy, art therapy, acting, architecture, and education, both as full-time degree programs and flexibly as part-time degree programs alongside employment.
Our Student Advisory Service team is happy to answer any questions about studying. Alternatively, interested applicants can also contact us directly via our form. And if you have questions about financing your studies, our Financial Advisory Service will be happy to help.
If you would like to get a direct impression: we regularly present our degree programs at information events, fairs, school visits, and study information days at the university. The perfect opportunity to speak directly with students and professors. We announce upcoming dates well in advance in our event calendar.

Step 2: Check the admission requirements
Whether you have a general higher education entrance qualification, an Abitur from a Waldorf school, or a vocational qualification – we value personality. That is why all of our degree programs are also without numerus clausus. With us, a wide variety of applicants have the opportunity to study and qualify for their professional path. Since the admission requirements differ in detail, we recommend reviewing and comparing them on the respective degree program pages.

Step 3: Apply online – easy & convenient
Applying to us is easy and convenient via the online application form. Fill it out and send it to us. Optionally, you can already attach a CV here to speed up the process. After we have reviewed your application request, we will contact you and ask you to send us the following documents by email. Please refer to our reply email to your application for the details.

- CV
- Certified copies of certificates
- Electronic notification of student health insurance
- International applicants: proof of sufficient German language skills (via TestDaF, DSH, or an equivalent certificate). Here you will find an overview of the required language certificates.
Also required for master’s degree programs:
- Proof of a first professionally qualifying university degree
- Master’s degree program in Fine Arts: a developed artistic project idea
Important: In individual degree programs, additional documents may also be required for your application. Please check the degree program page to find out which documents may be needed in addition.
The application is also non-binding and free of charge. Costs associated with studying only arise after you sign your study contract.

Step 4: Portfolio review & aptitude test
Depending on the degree program you are applying for, there is an entrance exam or an admissions interview. At these appointments, we would like to get to know you and learn what motivates you to study with us.
Portfolio review:
For artistic degree programs, admission takes place via a portfolio review. Information about the artistic application portfolio can be found on the respective degree program pages.
Practical aptitude tests:
Practical aptitude tests are held for the degree programs performART, Business & Acting, and Eurythmy. Please also refer to the degree program pages for details. In addition, we regularly offer a preparatory acting course that prepares students for entrance exams at drama schools and academies. More info.
Personal interview:
For academic degree programs, selection is carried out in part through a personal interview.
With our reply to your application, you will receive information about the next dates for portfolio reviews and aptitude tests. These dates are offered regularly until the start of the next semester in each case.
Step 5: Admission
Immediately after receiving your application, we will send you your study contract. Subject to the program-specific reviews by the department as well as the entrance qualification in the form of your certified certificates (admission requirements, portfolio review, or aptitude test), you are thereby admitted to the degree program. Congratulations!
Step 6: Enrollment – the final step
As soon as you have sent the signed study contract back to us, you are enrolled as a regular student at Alanus University. Congratulations! Now your studies can begin. You will receive all relevant information about the start of your studies, module registration, etc. from the departments.
This is when costs arise for the first time. Please refer to the university fee regulations.
