Discover the healing power of music with a degree in music therapy

“All music is born in the human heart.”
(Lü Buwei, Chinese philosopher, c. 300 BC)

Music has a direct effect on our emotions and the associated mental and physical well-being. It opens up a world of sound and experience capable of touching us on every level. It influences and supports physical well-being, stimulates healing, and has a relieving and balancing effect. The compositional principles of music, such as concentration and expansion, stillness and movement, heaviness and lightness, mirror the polar principles of the human being and their environment.

Through its resonance, music connects self and world, thereby creating communication and connectedness beyond language, across boundaries. The creative approach to one’s own thoughts and feelings helps patients process their illness, experience new perspectives, and regain strength and courage to face life.

Plenty of room for growth: the Master’s degree in Art Therapy at Alanus University.

PEOPLE

The Master’s degree in Music Therapy at Alanus University turns music into a tool for healing and development – and shapes new pathways in therapy.

The part-time Master’s degree program in Music Therapy teaches an arts-based and integrative approach founded on anthroposophy that makes an important contribution to a complementary treatment concept. The focus is on the individual and their personal developmental potential in health and illness.

Our students acquire the theoretical and practical skills needed to stimulate healing processes and thereby promote well-being and health in many areas of life and work. The Master’s degree in Music Therapy qualifies graduates for work in numerous professional fields: in special education and social-therapeutic institutions, in therapeutic centers, in clinics with a focus on psychiatry and psychosomatics, as well as in pediatrics, oncology and all other somatic departments, in palliative medicine, in hospices, and in the care of older people, as well as in outpatient practice.

In addition to our degree programs, we also offer a wide range of continuing education courses in art therapy.
