Master of Arts / Master of Education (Part-time)

Research Focus

• Methods of Practice Research: History of empirical educational and social science, quantitative hypothesis-testing and qualitative reconstructive research approaches
• Data Collection and Analysis: Application of different methods in students’ own small-scale research designs. Planning, implementation, and presentation of a joint teaching research project. The course content is systematically tested under supervision.
• Academic Writing and Master’s Thesis: Foundations of advanced academic work methods, implementation and reflection of an independent research project with practical relevance and its presentation (Master’s thesis)

• Philosophical Values for Education and Upbringing: Philosophy, art and cultural history, epistemology, ethics, personal development
• Artistic Work that Fosters Personal Development: Painting, sculpture, eurythmy, speech formation, and more

Individual Specialization Options

The educational research degree program offers the opportunity to engage more deeply with relevant topics depending on your professional field/background or desired professional development, for example early childhood or later childhood/adolescence in the context of social developments.

These individual specializations do not lead to a specialized Master’s title in the areas studied. The degree guarantees a general Master’s title in Education (M. A.), which can also be combined with students’ other motivations and interests, e.g. in social science, general educational science, or therapeutic fields.

Specialization “Teachers for Inclusion and Childhood Education in Educational Institutions”

For some time now, the Master’s program in Education has offered an interdisciplinary specialization titled “Teachers for Inclusion and Childhood Education in Educational Institutions.” It is offered both in the focus area “School and Teaching” and in the focus area “Practice Research in Educational, Social and Therapeutic Professional Fields.”

The advanced course offerings in adult education are intended for students who, after completing their Master’s degree, wish either to

• train educational professionals at technical schools/vocational colleges for social pedagogy 
• teach early childhood educators at Waldorf kindergarten seminars
• or offer further training for professionals, parents, caregivers of children and adolescents, as well as people interested in education, at family education centers or adult education centers.

Master of Education in Practice Research

• Completed university degree (Bachelor’s, State Examination, Diplom, Magister, or equivalent) or bachelor-equivalent qualifications (professional training and two years of professional experience). Please feel free to contact us about this.

Applications are possible at any time. The program begins each year in the autumn semester in the second week of September. To ensure a smooth start to your studies, your application should ideally be received by July 31. Entry at a later stage is possible by arrangement if the requirements are met.

• Letter of motivation (description of your professional goals and personal reasons for studying, approx. one DIN A4 page)
• tabular CV
• current certificate of your higher education entrance qualification and your first professionally qualifying university degree or equivalent qualifications (for the Master of Education degree program)

The following documents can also be submitted at a later date:

• certified copies of certificates of your higher education entrance qualification and your first professionally qualifying university degree (foreign certificates in officially certified German translation) → certified copies can also be made by us during service hours or by appointment at the student administration office.
• Passport photo for the student ID card
• Confirmation of registration from a German health insurance provider (a copy of your insurance card is not sufficient)
• for international applicants proof of sufficient German language skills (via TestDaF, DSH, or an equivalent certificate)
• Certificates of exmatriculation from all state and state-recognized universities you have attended, in copy form (For incomplete degree programs: Please also submit a complete, current transcript including failed attempts, as well as a university transfer/no-objection certificate for all previous periods of study.)

Study places are allocated on the basis of the application documents and a personal selection interview.
