Broaden your horizons with General Studies

The interdisciplinary and cross-year General Studies program is an essential component of all degree programs. The courses in this foundational supplementary program encourage students to think independently and critically, broaden their horizons, provide orientational knowledge, and thus enable them to find and represent their own standpoint within a cultural and social context.

Topics addressed include questions from philosophy as well as the arts and the social sciences. Students can define their own areas of focus.

If you have any questions about General Studies, our colleagues in the department will be happy to help.

Earn a university certificate as a student or guest auditor

General Studies regularly offer courses that conclude with a university certificate. Why is that useful? University certificates provide a solid foundation for prospective master’s degree programs or later professional practice. They promote key skills such as self-reflective, critical, connected, and interdisciplinary thinking – abilities that are becoming increasingly relevant in the job market.
