The online lecture provides insights into the content and working methods of the continuing education program “Resonant Space Nature – Aesthetic Research in the Context of Art Therapy” and combines theoretical impulses with a short practical intervention.

Therapeutic layered wool pictures in child and adolescent psychiatry – a new approach introduced

Mental stress among children and adolescents has been increasing significantly for years.
Clinical pictures such as depression, anxiety and panic disorders, eating disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, or trauma-related disorders are increasingly shaping therapeutic practice. Causes include digitalization, social media, the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as family-related and societal stress. Symptoms such as hypersensitivity, irritability, inner restlessness, and emotional instability are expressions of profound overwhelm – and an increasing loss of self-contact.
The need for effective, resource-oriented, and preventive methods is therefore greater than ever. This is exactly where the method of therapeutic layered wool pictures comes in: it offers an innovative body- and sensory-oriented approach that promotes stability, warmth, and self-perception.
Unlike classic art therapeutic/educational techniques, this method does not involve knitting, crocheting, wet felting as a primary technique, or felting with a felting needle. Instead, the pictures are created by carefully layering the finest wool fibers – by hand, on a warming lap box, and with oiled hands. This mindful, body-centered process creates a protected space in which clients can experience themselves through the sense of touch, come to rest, and reconnect with their feelings.
