Keynote lecture and discussion on education in times of AI
When: 04 September 2026, 7:00 PM
Location: Alanus University Alfter, Campus II – Villestraße
What do we still need to learn when machines know more and more? On 4 September 2026, philosopher, publicist, and bestselling author Richard David Precht will be a guest at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences in Alfter near Bonn. Invited by a student and the Department of Educational Science, he will speak from 7 PM on the future of education in the age of artificial intelligence. Afterwards, he will discuss for around 30 minutes with students and the audience the opportunities and challenges of AI for education and society. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Jost Schieren, Dean of the Department of Educational Science and Professor of School Pedagogy with a focus on Waldorf education.
Precht has been concerned for years with the social and ethical consequences of artificial intelligence. In his essay “Artificial Intelligence and the Meaning of Life”, he already examined in 2020 the effects of the technology on our lives. His new book “Told Out? How Artificial Intelligence Abolishes Culture” will be published in October 2026 and once again addresses the question of what AI means for human creativity, education, and culture.
The event is open to the public and free of charge.
