University Certificate in Eurythmy Therapy

The certificate course in eurythmy therapy is aimed at all eurythmists with a recognized eurythmy diploma who are interested in therapeutic work but are not seeking an academic degree.

The certificate course is structured into 9 thematic blocks covered in seminars and through independent study.

Foundations of Eurythmy Therapy

Participants acquire skills for understanding and instrumentally transforming eurythmic movements into eurythmy therapy movements. They are enabled to experience the effects of the basic eurythmic-therapeutic exercises.

Applied Eurythmy Therapy I

Participants are specifically prepared for everyday professional practice; the topics of therapeutic goals, treatment plans, and treatment processes are developed, and appropriate documentation and self-critical evaluation are practiced. There is also an introduction to general and special pathology from the perspective of curative eurythmy, and indications and contraindications are addressed.

Applied Eurythmy Therapy II

Eurythmy therapy is explored in greater depth using specific clinical pictures. Participants are able to understand therapeutic exercise sequences for specific medical indications and create patient-appropriate therapeutic goals, treatment plans, and implementation strategies (duration, intensity, etc.). They learn to independently expand and adapt common indications into specific exercises. Participants are able to place eurythmy therapy in the context of other artistic therapies and critically reflect on the specific possibilities and limitations of eurythmy therapy.

Medicine I

Participants acquire basic knowledge of the general and specific pathology of physical and mental illnesses. This may include both conventional medicine and anthroposophically extended medicine. Starting from knowledge of the manifestations of various specific illnesses, they develop an understanding of the ill person, for whom general therapeutic considerations are then developed and anthroposophical therapeutic approaches are presented. Participants are enabled to independently deepen their knowledge of selected clinical pictures.

Medicine II

Participants acquire basic knowledge of specific pathology in the fields of orthopedics and neurology as well as psychiatric illnesses and curative education. They develop understanding and in-depth knowledge of fundamental disease processes in these specialist fields.

Studium Generale

The university’s namesake, Alanus ab Insulis, was called “doctor universalis” and taught the so-called Seven Liberal Arts in the 12th century. Studium Generale renews this tradition of holistic education that extends beyond one’s own subject area. It is therefore a component of all degree programs at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences and can also be taken by participants in the certificate course.

Artistic / therapeutic supplementary subjects

By acquiring basic knowledge and skills in a supplementary subject, participants are encouraged to view their own subject repeatedly from different perspectives. Intensive engagement with related or different art forms and therapies provides inspiration for this. Through engagement with other art forms/therapy forms, participants can acquire differentiated perception and an expansion of eurythmic/therapeutic means of expression.

Practical component

The practical application of the foundations of eurythmy therapy in applied eurythmy therapy, under the mentorship of experienced colleagues, accompanies the certificate course. Practical experience should take place in various fields of eurythmy therapy; different clinical pictures are encountered through individual patients. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, participants conduct their own therapy sessions. The therapy concepts developed independently in consultation with physicians and specialist colleagues are documented. Participation in team meetings or therapeutic consultations is part of the practical experience.

Final thesis

The final thesis involves working on a case report directly related to eurythmy therapy practice. According to specified criteria, a eurythmy therapy treatment is carried out and documented in writing. The written case report is presented through an oral presentation and practical demonstration.

The certificate course is offered in block weeks of 3 x 3 weeks per year in Alfter/Bonn. In addition, there are periods of independent study as well as practical experience. The seminars offered are designed so that participants can attend classes together with students in the Master of Arts cohort.

The duration of the part-time certificate course is 4 to 6 semesters.

The cost of the University Certificate in Eurythmy Therapy is 1,526 euros per semester or 264 euros with monthly payment.

The duration of study is at least 4 semesters and may be extended depending on individual circumstances until all content of the certificate course has been fully completed.

The prerequisite for participation in the university certificate course is a completed eurythmy degree from a recognized training institution (eurythmy diploma from the Section for the Performing Arts/Goetheanum), as well as a successful admission interview with the program director.

The certificate course in eurythmy therapy is completed upon completion of documented practical phases and the successful presentation of the final thesis, leading to the University Certificate in Eurythmy Therapy from Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences. In addition, graduates receive a diploma in curative eurythmy from the Medical Section at the Goetheanum, Switzerland, which grants permission to practice the profession of curative eurythmist in cooperation with a physician.
