Theories and Practices of Digitality & AI

The certificate is aimed at all students at Alanus University who would like to gain a philosophically and sociologically grounded understanding of phenomena of digitalization. The certificate course provides fundamental knowledge and methods that enable an active, reflective, and self-determined approach to digital processes, new media, and artificial intelligence in various areas of life, fields of study, and professional contexts. Students at Alanus University can complete the certificate course as part of the Studium Generale or as an additional accompanying course of study.

• Philosophically and sociologically grounded, critically reflective introduction to phenomena of digitalization and AI
• Practice and reflection on digital methods and practices

The certificate consists of three modules.

In the basic module, participants learn to develop a well-founded perspective on current developments in digitalization. They gain the ability to reflect on the influence of digitality and AI in areas including art, literature, business, and society, and learn to analyze both the benefits and the challenges for personal life as well as for broader processes.

In the practical module, you apply some of the knowledge acquired in the basic module or further practice the methods you became familiar with in that context.

In the final module, the knowledge acquired in the other modules is assessed.

Completing all modules corresponds to comprehensive foundational or individual further qualification at university level amounting to 12 ECTS credits. This corresponds to a workload of 300 hours). The certificate course can be attended for a maximum of the duration of enrollment at Alanus University. All relevant coursework can be completed within four semesters at the latest. You can complete the coursework flexibly and largely in any order (with the exception of the final module): either as part of the Studium Generale, as an additional accompanying course of study, or within the framework of guest auditor status.

The Department of Philosophical and Aesthetic Education offers several relevant courses each semester. In addition, other courses at Alanus University that are clearly related to the topics of the certificate course may be credited.

Enrollment at Alanus University in a full-time degree program, part-time degree program, or as a guest auditor.

The certificate course is free of charge for regularly enrolled students. Guest auditors are charged a fee of EUR 100.00 for the issuance of the certificate.
