Research project: Working from home, homeschooling and the impact on children's use of screen media
What experiences have families had during lockdown?
Working from home, homeschooling – how has the change in screen use affected screen time and family life?
Students in the master’s degree program in Practice Research are exploring these questions in a self-developed teaching research project.
Using an online questionnaire and interviews, they want to find out how the use of smartphones, laptops, tablets and similar devices changed during the pandemic.
Who would have imagined a year ago that parents would voluntarily place their children in front of computer screens for several hours a day, even at the instruction of the state? With distance learning, there was hardly any way around it. But what did this trigger?
The scientific survey, which also serves to help students practice research methods, is now intended to provide some clarity. To this end, parents of schoolchildren are being asked how they assess their children’s media use and whether they believe that the lockdowns had a negative or perhaps even positive effect on media consumption in their family.

It takes about 15–20 minutes to complete. This is an anonymous survey; the data collected will only be used as part of the research project and will not be passed on to third parties. Your participation is voluntary, and you are free to withdraw from the survey at any time.
