Coherent Existence - New Typologies of Living
The bachelor’s thesis “Coherent Existence” by Johannes Hoffmann, Maximilian Bentler and Daryan Knoblauch addresses the question of housing.
Growing cities lack centrally located space for quality housing, and the pressure is now being felt everywhere. With their urban and progressive experiments, they question conventional approaches to living. In the spirit of a society oriented toward the common good, the trio transfers ideas from the “sharing economy” to urban space: fewer private spaces, multiple uses, or the dissolution of property boundaries are packaged into different scenarios.
Various locations within Cologne were selected as the starting point for their experimental attempts at living. In addition to a parking lot and an allotment garden settlement, one of the vacant railway arches on Hüttenstraße in Cologne-Ehrenfeld was also used as a projection surface for a new typology of living.
The work was published in a publication, featured in DAB (Deutsches Architektenblatt), and exhibited as part of the international CityLeaks Urban Art Festival in one of the railway arches on Hüttenstraße in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. In addition, the work received the BDA Masters 2018 award.
