“City Transformers” are people who are highly committed to changing and further developing cities through concrete projects. As part of this project, research will be conducted into how actors can be connected and supported in order to foster synergies and social innovations in urban spaces. Various modules are planned to support these city makers: a mentoring program, various workshops, tailored training courses, joint workshops, as well as the City Makers Award, which recognizes exemplary projects. In addition, an online platform is planned to communicate and connect the network.
The project idea emerged during a 24-hour workshop organized by the Robert Bosch Foundation from September 27 to 28, 2016, at the Spreespeicher in Berlin. Around 90 researchers developed joint research ideas in interdisciplinary teams. The city makers were selected for further development with the second-highest number of votes. Supported by funding of 16,000 euros, the project idea is now to be developed into a project proposal during the prototyping phase and submitted to the Robert Bosch Foundation for funding over a period of three to four years.
