Professional career
Since 2023 // Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Educational Science at Alanus University.
2008 – 2023 // Founder and Managing Director at the Community School for Creative Education, Oakland, California, USA. First statewide urban, multicultural, comprehensive K-8 charter school inspired by the Waldorf approach, serving the San Antonio neighborhood in Oakland and the surrounding areas.
2019 – 2023 // Founder and Director for the USA of the “Friends of Waldorf Education Emergency Pedagogy Center California-USA.”
2015 – 2022 // Co-founder and Director of the “Mills Waldorf Professional Development Certificate Program” at Mills College, Oakland, California, USA.
2007 – 2009 // Educational Consultant: Oberman Consulting. This included educational evaluation services for educational organizations in the Bay Area, including Save the Bay and Springboard Schools.
2003 – 2006 // Director of Research and Evaluation: Springboard Schools, San Francisco, California, USA. Led a five-person research team at the San Francisco-based school reform initiative supporting school districts and schools in California with research, coaching, and professional development.
1998 – 2002 // Member of the state advisory committee for National Board certification: support for the Department of Education in its efforts to increase the number of National Board-certified teachers in California.
1998 – 2001 // Associate Program Officer for Education: Hewlett Foundation, Menlo Park, California. Designed grant programs and solicited and reviewed grant applications for the foundation’s K-12 and higher education funding portfolio.
1996 – 1998 // Researcher: Center for Research on the Context of Teaching, Stanford University. Member of the team responsible for evaluating two Annenberg sites: the Bay Area School Reform Initiative and LEARN in Los Angeles.
1997 – 1998 // Staff member: Pew Forum on Primary and Secondary School Reform, Stanford University. Team member at eight Pew Forum conferences, two of which were led.
1995 – 1998 // Co-founder and facilitator: West Side Community School, Manhattan, New York, USA. Lead founder of the public Waldorf pilot program on the edge of Harlem in New York.
