Student mobility

Students receive

• country-specific financial grants for their study stay abroad
• additional funding for students with children
• additional funding for students with disabilities
• academic recognition of coursework completed abroad
• an exemption from tuition, registration, examination, laboratory and library fees at the host university
• support in preparing for and carrying out the stay abroad (cultural, linguistic, organisational)
• an online language course funded by Erasmus+ במסגרת Online Language Support (OLS)

Amount of funding

The monthly funding rates for each country group are determined by the National Agency for Erasmus+:

Erasmus+ funding for study:

• Group 1 (€600 per month): Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden.
• Group 2 (€540 per month): Belgium, Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus.
• Group 3 (€490 per month): Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Republic of North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary.

Erasmus+ funding for internships:

• Group 1 (€450 per month): Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden.
• Group 2 (€390 per month): Belgium, Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus.
• Group 3 (€330 per month): Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Republic of North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary.

For internships, students receive a monthly top-up of €150 on top of the respective funding rate.

Staff mobility

The financial support for Erasmus+ mobility measures for teaching or training and professional development is based on the differing costs of living in the destination countries (“programme countries”). Uniform daily rates apply for funding through German universities. For Germany, the following fixed daily rates apply for four country groups up to the 14th day of the stay; from the 15th to the 60th day of the stay, funding amounts to 70% of the daily rates stated:

• Group 1: €180 per day for Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden.
• Group 2: €160 per day for Belgium, Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus.
• Group 3: €140 per day for Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary.

In addition to these daily rates, travel costs are reimbursed depending on the actual distances between the point of departure and destination of the mobility, which are determined uniformly across Europe using a calculation tool . The following amounts are reimbursed per stay depending on the distance. For “green travel”*, slightly higher travel grants are awarded:

• 10 km – 99 km with €23
• 100 km – 499 km with €180 / €210 with “green travel”
• 500 km – 1,999 km with €275 / €320 with “green travel”
• 2,000 km – 2,999 km with €360 / €410 with “green travel”
• 3,000 km – 3,999 km with €530 / €610 with “green travel”
• 4,000 km – 7,999 km with €820
• 8,000 km and more with €1,500

*Green travel: “Green travel” refers to travel in which low-emission means of transport such as bus, train or carpooling are used for the majority of the journey.

Application deadlines and requirements

Study abroad: The application deadlines are from 01 Dec. to 31 Jan. for the winter semester and from 01 June to 31 July for the following summer semester. Erasmus study is eligible for funding from the 3rd Bachelor’s semester onwards.

Internship abroad: You may apply at any time. The complete application documents must be submitted to the International Office no later than two months before the start of the internship. An Erasmus internship is eligible for funding from the first semester onwards.

You must remain enrolled at Alanus University for the duration of your stay abroad.

Selection of students
Students first apply for Erasmus+ study stays through the International Office at Alanus University. A selection committee (Erasmus university coordination plus one or more Erasmus departmental coordinators) decides in February and August on allocation to the applicant’s first, second or third choice of partner university. In addition to motivation, the criteria include the state of preparation (information about the partner university and the country), language skills and the current status of academic performance.

After selection, the applicant receives an offer, which they confirm. They are then nominated to the partner university. The host university makes the final decision on awarding the study place.

The Erasmus+ programme is implemented in 33 so-called programme countries. These are the member states of the European Union as well as five programme countries outside the EU.

Note

For study-related stays abroad, please note that the destination university must have concluded a cooperation agreement with Alanus University. Within the framework of Erasmus+, Alanus University cooperates with numerous partner universities.

All Erasmus+ students receive the Erasmus+ Student Charter after their selection, which sets out their rights and obligations during their study or internship stay within the framework of Erasmus+.

Erasmus+ has a budget of around €28 billion. More than ten million people will benefit from EU funding by 2027. Designed to run for seven years, the programme aims to improve skills and employability and advance the modernisation of systems of general and vocational education as well as child and youth welfare services. Information about the Erasmus+ programme can be found on the website of the European Commission.

The funding primarily strengthens mobility in Europe and, since 2015, to a lesser extent also with other parts of the world. Students in all study cycles, including doctoral studies, can complete part of their studies or an internship abroad. In every phase of study, stays abroad from two to 12 months can be funded (new programme generation 2021–27). The monthly mobility grants are adjusted to the cost of living in the host countries, and those for internships are increased at a flat rate. Finally, Erasmus+ offers students who wish to complete a full Master’s degree in Europe the opportunity to take out a low-interest loan for this purpose. The previous excellence funding of Erasmus Mundus, which supports excellent students throughout a full Master’s degree in selected European joint-degree programmes, is being continued under Erasmus+.

In the new programme generation, participants are also to be supported in making greater use of sustainable means of transport. To improve equal opportunities, funding for students with disabilities and students with children is being expanded.

Erasmus+ also contributes to the further internationalisation of universities by funding short-term teaching assignments and training stays for teaching and administrative staff. In addition, universities can invite company staff from abroad for teaching stays and can now also participate with other European partners (including from the non-academic sector) in multilateral Strategic Partnerships and jointly develop innovative projects (e.g. in the field of curriculum development or on cross-sectoral educational topics). For cooperation with industry, Erasmus+ offers funding in the new Knowledge Alliances. Universities wishing to engage in capacity building in third countries can do so through the programme’s international higher education partnerships.

Funding for most mobility measures and the Strategic Partnerships is awarded in the 33 programme countries (27 EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Republic of North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Turkey) by the National Agencies. In Germany, this task continues to be carried out by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

By signing the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE)*, Alanus University has committed itself to a modernisation and internationalisation programme. It forms the quality basis for cooperation activities of higher education institutions at the European and international level within the framework of Erasmus+.

The EU guideline for the workload in an Erasmus semester abroad is 30 ECTS credits per semester. However, you must complete courses worth at least 15 ECTS per semester in full at the partner university, including the partner university’s examinations. To guarantee automatic recognition, a “Learning Agreement” is concluded with the Erasmus departmental coordinator in the department before the start of the semester abroad. There you will also receive information on grade conversion. After your stay abroad, send your Transcript of Records from the partner university to the Examination Office, with the International Office in cc. All funding recipients who have taken part in an Erasmus+ mobility measure are required to prepare a report via the Beneficiary Module (BM) after completion of the measure and submit it together with the relevant supporting documents (e.g. proof of the duration of stay).
