During his internship phase, our student Max traveled to India.
In the middle of the monsoon season, with temperatures just under 40 degrees, our student Max Bewermeier was traveling in India at the beginning of July together with his practice partner Triaz Group.
In addition to visiting a production facility for jute bags, the main focus was on handmade carpet production. These are mainly produced as home-based work, meaning that the entire carpet production process is highly opaque and unstructured due to its decentralized organization.
The Triaz Group therefore works together with the organization Step, which specializes in fair trade for handmade carpets. The aim is to improve the working and living conditions of the weavers.
“In my last internship phase, I was personally involved in supporting the cooperation with Step, so it was particularly exciting to be able to see on site what has happened in our workshops over the past six months. I also realized how important it is for us to maintain close personal contact with the producers. Because that is the only way we can build a basis of trust and achieve improvements together over the long term,” Max reports about his experiences on site.
