New Bachelor's degree program in Waldorf Education starting in September 2024

Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences in Alfter near Bonn and the Waldorf Institute Witten Annen have entered into a joint cooperation: Starting in September 2024, Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences, in a franchise arrangement with the Waldorf Institute in Witten, will offer the Waldorf Education Bachelor of Arts degree program at the campus in Witten Annen. The corresponding cooperation agreement was signed on 24 April 2024 by Rector Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Pieper and Chancellor Michael Schröder of Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences, and by Andrea Waldmann and Frank Schade of the Waldorf Institute Witten Annen.

This cooperation brings together two institutions, both of which have many years of experience in training Waldorf teachers. Future students of the Waldorf Education bachelor’s degree program in Witten Annen will benefit from the strengths of both institutions: from the academic expertise of Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences and from the institute in Witten Annen’s extensive practical experience, including a broad Waldorf school network. “With this cooperation, we are taking an important synergistic step that will benefit Waldorf teacher education. Students of Waldorf Education will receive a qualification that prepares them optimally for their future profession as teachers,” explains Prof. Dr. Jost Schieren, Dean of the Department of Educational Sciences at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences.

The three-year bachelor’s degree program at the Waldorf Institute Witten Annen campus imparts (Waldorf) educational expertise and combines academic, artistic, and social personal development. Together with a broad range of subject-specific and didactic-methodological course content, the degree program comprehensively prepares future Waldorf educators for their educational responsibilities.

In addition to the new cooperation in North Rhine-Westphalia, Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences has for 10 years also offered another full-time bachelor’s degree in Waldorf Education and a full-time master’s degree program at its Mannheim location at the Institute for Waldorf Education, Inclusion and Interculturality.

After completing the bachelor’s degree program in Waldorf Education, graduates can therefore continue with a (Waldorf) education master’s degree program at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences: either a part-time master’s degree program in Alfter near Bonn or a full-time master’s degree program in Mannheim. This ensures versatile and high-quality academic Waldorf teacher education for North Rhine-Westphalia and helps address the extraordinary teacher shortage through the synergy of two training locations.
