Interview with alumna Eliza Werken

Eliza studied Business Administration – Rethinking Economics at Alanus University with the practice partner Weleda. She completed her practical phases at the French headquarters in Huningue. She also had the fantastic opportunity to complete one of her practical phases at one of the company's international production sites, namely in New Zealand.

What do I do professionally?

I work in content marketing and have also been self-employed since 2019 (consciousandgreen.de). Especially since my studies at Alanus University, sustainability has been very close to my heart, and I deliberately choose conscious and sustainable companies for my collaborations, companies that make a positive contribution to this world. My specialty is blog articles. With my texts, I want to inspire, excite, educate, and encourage people to act more consciously, in peaceful coexistence and in harmony with nature. The topic of zero waste is especially close to my heart, which is why in 2020 I founded the blog “Let’sgetnaked” on plastic-free living together with a friend.

What did you learn at Alanus University?

To think critically and question entrenched patterns and structures from time to time; to look beyond the obvious; to be creative when it comes to finding a solution. That there is always something that can be improved when it comes to sustainability. That sustainability is much more than planting a tree. The companies of the future should think holistically and include all three dimensions of sustainability wherever possible.

What is your most formative experience with Alanus University?

There are so many unforgettable experiences. The most formative were probably the weekly eurythmy classes, which usually took place before lectures, and the various art projects.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Alanus University?

For me, Alanus University is a warm place of growing together and coming together. A place where new ideas are born and where people are taught to look beyond the obvious. A place where the entrepreneurs of the future are born.

What do you miss when you think of Alanus?

The eurythmy classes, the art projects, the sense of community, the campus, the many opportunities for personal development, and the diversity of the degree programme.

What do you wish for Alanus University?

That it continues on its current path and inspires, excites, and sets many more students on their way. I can truly and warmly recommend this degree programme to anyone who does not simply want to study business administration, but wants to make a difference and help shape the corporate world.
