A Wide Range of Career Opportunities

After completing her bachelor's degree in Childhood Education, Simone Romot works in specialist advisory services for daycare centers.

• Where am I & what am I doing?

I have a wide range of career opportunities ahead of me. Since completing my studies, I have been working as a specialist advisor for daycare centers. My responsibilities include advising on and supporting the development of educational concepts, with a focus on “inclusion” and “child protection.” As a specialist advisor, I am positioned between daycare centers and the political and social developments and decisions in early childhood education policy. My task is to act as a multiplier by providing information in both directions, while also initiating change processes and representing them in the relevant committees.
At the same time, I have begun training as a systemic counselor in order to expand my communication skills and do justice to the person opposite me. And because I am not finished with “wanting to learn.”  

• How did I get here?

After a “typical” career as an early childhood educator, during which I was able to help build a “new” institution and, as the released head of an institution with a focus on inclusion, bring about a great deal, my desire for further development grew stronger. That was when I decided to study alongside my job.
The degree program offered by Alanus University was a perfect fit for my professional work and my family situation. And it proved to be one of the best decisions in my professionalization process.  

• To what extent did my time at Alanus University shape me?

That is difficult to express in just a few words.
The degree program was demanding and very well structured. Over time, the individual modules were linked together, and in the end a complex, interconnected body of knowledge in early childhood education emerged. The success of the degree program is evident to me in my new role.
The lecturers supported me personally and helped me in my learning and research processes, while also leaving enough freedom for me to find my own path.
In addition, Alanus University shaped my personal development during this time. The artistic-aesthetic modules and the Studium Generale broadened my thinking, seeing, and acting beyond my own horizon. From the first to the last day, I was “intrinsically motivated” (a favorite phrase from my time as a student).
