An artistic project by Alanus University for self-development for children with refugee backgrounds

Art can be a language when words are missing. The exhibition “Interwoven Worlds” by Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences gives children with refugee backgrounds from Alfter space to express experiences, memories and wishes artistically. On display are works in painting, collage and sculptural techniques created in workshops run by the university’s Institute for Art Therapy, offering personal insights into the children’s worlds.

The project began in October 2024 and was developed by Alanus University in cooperation with the Municipality of Alfter and funded by the Rhein-Sieg district. In a protected atmosphere, the children developed their own visual languages, strengthened their self-confidence and built social connections. The exhibition makes visible how art can foster encounters, exchange and integration. The opening takes place on 26 March 2026 at 5 pm at Alfter Town Hall.
