Philosophy & Life Design

The certificate is aimed at anyone interested in gaining orientation knowledge and methods for a philosophically grounded way of life in order to actively shape various areas of life and professional fields on this basis.

Students at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences can complete the certificate course as part of Studium Generale or as an additional accompanying course of study.

• You will be able to philosophically situate and reflect on exemplary life concepts.
• You will gain a multidimensional, holistic access to yourself and, on this basis, be able to experience, interpret, and shape yourself.
• You will become familiar with paths and means of life design and be able to implement them personally.

The certificate consists of three modules. In the basic module, you will receive a philosophically grounded and critically reflective introduction to processes of creative self-development, spiritual practices and paths of development, as well as methods from philosophical practice (philosophy of the art of living, life coaching).

In the practical module, you will apply some of the knowledge acquired in the basic module or continue practicing the methods you became familiar with in this context.

In the final module, the knowledge acquired in the other modules is assessed.

Completing all modules corresponds to comprehensive basic or individual further qualification at university level comprising 12 ECTS credits (i.e. a workload of 300 hours). More information about the structure and content of the certificate course can be found in the module handbook and the examination regulations.

The certificate course can be attended for a maximum of the duration of enrollment at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences. All relevant coursework can be completed within four semesters at the latest. You can complete the coursework flexibly and largely in any order (with the exception of the final module): either as part of Studium Generale or as an additional accompanying course of study, as well as within the framework of guest auditor status.

The Department of Philosophical and Aesthetic Education offers several related courses each semester. In addition, other courses at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences that are clearly related to the topics of the certificate course can be credited.

Enrollment at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences in a full-time degree program, part-time degree program, or as a guest auditor.

The certificate course is free of charge for regularly enrolled students. Guest auditors are charged a fee of EUR 100 for the issuance of the certificate.
