Lilli is in her third semester of the Bachelor's degree program in Sustainable Management at Alanus University and is spending her semester abroad at Heliopolis University, our partner university, in Cairo.

The Heliopolis University for sustainable development was founded in 2009 under the leadership of SEKEM. Its aim is to advance concepts and principles of sustainable development for students and the Egyptian community. In this way, the threats to the Earth caused by industrialization and consumption are to be reduced and general well-being improved. The motto of Heliopolis University is: “Sustainability, freedom, solidarity, and responsibility.”

Lilli is very happy to be able to spend her semester abroad at Heliopolis University. She received a warm welcome from her fellow students. The modules she is taking at the university are very interesting and similar to those in the business degree programs at Alanus University. From entrepreneurship to eurythmy, it has everything. The university is a small, beautiful island in dusty Cairo and, like Alanus University, is strongly focused on sustainable development. “It is very encouraging and motivating to see how the important approaches of a holistic view of the world, personal development, and environmental awareness are repeatedly emphasized at the university,” Lilli reports enthusiastically. For her, the cultural exchange is very complex and multifaceted, and learning from one another is very exciting and inspiring.

Students who would like to spend their semester abroad at Heliopolis University in Cairo are very welcome to speak to Lilli. In addition, our International Office at Alanus University provides information for students and prospective students about semesters abroad, and the contact person for students in the Department of Business is Prof. Susanne Blazejewski.
