Making climate education accessible to everyone – that is what Alanus University and the University of Bonn aim to do with a joint educational program for the “Public Climate School” from 7 to 11 November!

With more than 40 lectures, seminars, workshops and interactive activities, students and lecturers are taking part in the nationwide week of action coordinated by Students for Future. Everyone interested is invited to engage with the topic of climate change during this week and adopt climate-friendly behavior. The events are public and free of charge.

“I am proud of and looking forward to the diverse program from all departments that the students have put together together with the lecturers for the ‘Public Climate School’,” says Rector Hans-Joachim Pieper. “This week, we are opening the university to all interested visitors in order to make a contribution—within the scope of our possibilities—to the socio-ecological transformation of our society.”

As part of the “Public Climate School,” the lecturers are examining the topic of climate change from a wide range of perspectives—economic, ecological, social, philosophical and artistic. In his lecture series “Regenerative Economics,” Professor Stephan Hankammer, for example, will explore how companies can move from greenwashing to genuine regenerative sustainability. In the workshop “How to Iceberg,” participants can themselves become artistically active and create a wall installation out of tape together with Kathrin Böhm, Professor of Art in a Business Context. The online discussion “Climate Anxiety and Climate Resilience” also provides an opportunity to talk about feelings of fear, grief and anger in the face of the climate catastrophe.

With the support of the kitchen staff, Alanus University will also offer an entirely vegan and climate-friendly lunch in the cafeteria during the week of action. “Climate protection and sustainability do not stop in everyday university life. We want to raise awareness among the university community and all interested people, inform them and encourage them to speak up,” explains Anna Rupprich from the student initiative of the “Public Climate School.”

All events (some online or hybrid) are public and free of charge.
