Making women visible at Alanus

From the Chancellor to Administration: On the occasion of this year’s International Women’s Day on 8 March, our Equal Opportunities Officer Paulina Andrade took a closer look: What does the gender distribution at Alanus University look like?

The survey shows that not only are many women represented at all levels, but the top of the university is also staffed by female leaders. Our Chancellor Myrle Dziak-Mahler is the first woman in a leadership role in the 50-year history of Alanus University. In addition, with Vice-Rector Professor Andrea Sunder-Plassmann, as well as Dean Eva Paul, Vice-Deans Juliane Melches and Professor Dr. Stefanie Greubel, other women also hold leadership positions in our departments.

Alanus University is on the right track: Overall, 21 of 49 professorships are held by women; the halfway mark has almost been reached! Among academic staff, the 50 percent mark has even been exceeded – 31 of 48 academic staff members are women. As in many other institutions, significantly more women than men are employed in the administration of Alanus University (87 of 116 staff members). Looking ahead, the university remains committed to further reducing gender inequalities and enabling women to take on leadership positions.

Since 1921, International Women’s Day has been observed annually on 8 March. On this occasion, people around the world draw particular attention to the fact that people perceived as female still experience certain social disadvantages because of their gender. In 2023, the focus is #EmbraceEquity: “Embrace Equity”.
