A cooperation between the Open Embassy in Bonn and the Institute for Process Architecture at Alanus University.

From 26 to 30 May 2025, the Open Embassy in Bonn will become a place for encounter and exchange. As part of the project “Open Construction Site: Kitchen Conversations,” the Institute for Process Architecture at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences, together with Open Embassy | doing democracy, invites you to a week of togetherness – at the center: a mobile community kitchen and open conversations about how we live together today and tomorrow.

At a time when social cohesion is under pressure, the project creates space for new perspectives. The idea: The construction site of the emerging Open Embassy in the former American Club in Bonn becomes a place of lived democracy. Where the young Federal Republic once revived democracy together with international guests, it is now to be reimagined and tested anew. Instead of providing ready-made answers, questions are placed at the center. How can we create spaces in which people meet and enter into conversation with one another? Who shapes the way we live together? What does a life of solidarity look like? And what role do spaces, rituals – and not least cooking and eating together – play in this?

The mobile kitchen creates spontaneous encounters in different places and thus becomes an open experimental space for togetherness. Whether in the immediate surroundings of the Open Embassy, in Bad Godesberg to the south, or in the city center: the kitchen goes where life happens. Neighbors, passersby, the curious, and committed individuals are invited to join a kitchen conversation about our shared future. In this way, the kitchen serves as a tool for encounter and exchange. It becomes a place where people cook, discuss, and create together. With every conversation, a piece of living democracy grows. “Do it together” here means not only talking, but also listening, arguing, and shaping. Those who take part become part of this open experiment.
