With their unique interdisciplinary approach, the degree programs in the Department of Acting at Alanus University prepare students for a career as a performer in theater or film, a path in the fine arts, or in business. Sounds good? It is!

In view of the changing world of work, the Department of Acting at Alanus University pursues an innovative educational concept with its two bachelor’s degree programs performART (Bachelor of Arts) and Business & Acting (Bachelor of Arts): Students are educated to become independent and reflective individuals who not only have a well-founded repertoire of methods, but can also make an impact on society as responsible personalities. The focus is on the interdisciplinary approach, which is brought to life through collaboration with the departments of Fine Arts and Business.

Study acting, but not only acting!

The performART and Business & Acting degree programs are unique in the German-speaking world. The performART degree program combines performing and visual arts and prepares students for a professional future in artistic, educational, and therapeutic fields. The Business & Acting degree program combines creative expression and analytical skills. It teaches the essential foundations of the acting craft and solid business knowledge while optimally developing key future skills such as teamwork, empathy, resilience, creativity, and communication.

Both degree programs teach fundamental acting skills. The program gives students the opportunity to deepen their personal interests and work both inter- and transdisciplinarily. It is about looking beyond the obvious and giving students the skills and courage to develop their own artistic formats, realize projects, act in public spaces, and break new ground. Learning in small cohorts enables social experiences and engagement with group dynamic processes.

Gaining stage experience made easy at the Hoftheater

The department has its own venue in the form of the Hoftheater . This means that stage experience as well as engagement with an audience and the press are an integral part of acting studies from the very beginning. Thanks to collaborations with theaters and other universities throughout Germany and close cooperation with numerous institutions, our students are integrated into a strong network.
