PROMOS

Under the PROMOS funding program, the following formats can currently be applied for at Alanus University:

• Study visits at partner universities outside Europe, in particular Heliopolis University in Cairo and Hiroshima City University in Japan
• Study trips: Departments can apply for study trips with 5 to 15 participating students or doctoral candidates, as well as one university staff member, lasting a maximum of 5 days (including travel days). In addition to imparting subject-related knowledge and providing insight into the host country, the focus should be on interaction with students and academics. Funding for compulsory excursions and measures that have already taken place is excluded. Trips with a predominantly tourist program as well as lecture and conference trips cannot be funded.

Regularly enrolled students and doctoral candidates at German universities may apply for PROMOS funding if they:

• hold German citizenship, or
• are treated as equivalent to German nationals under Section 8 Paragraph 1 No. 2 ff., Paragraphs 2, 2a and 3 BAföG (in this context, the wording of the law applies, available at: www.das-neue-bafoeg.de), or
• as non-German students and university graduates, are enrolled in a degree program at a German university with the aim of obtaining a degree from the German university or completing a doctorate at a German university.

For non-German nationals, stays in their home country are excluded.

A home country is defined as the country in which the student / doctoral candidate has predominantly resided for at least five years.

Teaching staff may submit applications for study or competition trips for specific study projects/courses.

The application deadlines for a PROMOS scholarship are at the beginning of the year for the following fall semester and in the middle of the year for the following spring semester.

The calls for applications are sent by email to the student mailing lists.

The following documents must be submitted to the International Office for the application:

•    fully completed application form including a letter of motivation
•    tabular CV
•    transcript of records from the Examinations Office via FlexNow
•    informal declaration of consent from a university lecturer in your subject area regarding your international mobility
•    proof of language proficiency in the working language of the partner university/institution
•    For internships: official internship confirmation (covering period and activities) from the host institution

After you have been selected:

• Conclusion of a learning agreement between the department and the host university/institution
• informal declaration stating that the International Office has informed you of the need for health insurance, liability insurance, vaccinations, and a visa. On the website of the Federal Foreign Office, you will find travel and security information.

An internal university selection committee reviews the applications according to mandatory DAAD criteria. You will be notified no later than 4 weeks after the application deadline whether your project can be funded.

Alanus University is responsible for awarding the scholarships and travel expense lump sums.

PROMOS scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance and personal suitability. The relevance of the planned stay in relation to previous studies as well as the necessary knowledge of the local language of the destination (or the willingness to acquire it) must be demonstrated.

A selection committee with rotating members from administration and teaching decides on the awarding of scholarships.

The scholarships are paid out on the condition that Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences is provided with the corresponding funds by the DAAD.
