For a practice-oriented path into studying art

With PraxisStart Fine Arts, an additional practice-oriented path into the Bachelor’s degree program in Fine Arts at Alanus University is being created. The program is aimed in particular at school graduates who want to work artistically, are curious, and want to develop their own visual language – even if they do not yet have a completed application portfolio or are only just beginning their artistic journey.

Instead of a traditional application with portfolio and admission interview, an intensive five-day workshop will take place from 29 June to 03 July 2026 at Campus I – Johannishof. This workshop week also serves as the aptitude test for the Bachelor’s degree program in Fine Arts at Alanus University. Applying with a portfolio remains possible independently of this. Studies begin in the autumn semester (September).

The focus is not on the perfect result, but on the process: the willingness to experiment, ask questions, take risks, and further develop one’s own ideas. What is sought is attitude, openness, and artistic potential.

Who is PraxisStart suitable for?

PraxisStart Fine Arts is deliberately conceived as a new format offering an open and experimental path into studying art – an opportunity to experience artistic work in a shared process, get to know the university and its lecturers, and further develop your own path through dialogue.

Anyone who is curious, asks questions, wants to try things out, and wants to unfold artistic potential is exactly right here. The university looks forward to applicants who help shape this first round with openness, energy, and a spirit of discovery, and who are ready to engage in intensive artistic processes. PraxisStart is particularly suitable for creative minds who:

After the workshop: what happens next?

A few days after the workshop week has ended, participants will be notified by email. Participants who are offered a place in the degree program will receive all further information about the enrollment process.

1. Accepting the place in the degree program
   Would you like to accept the place? Great, then please confirm this by email.
2. Contract documents & enrollment
   You will then be sent the documents for the study contract as well as all relevant information about enrollment.
3. Preparing for your studies
   After the contract has been concluded, you will receive organizational information about the start of studies, introductory events, and the first dates of the semester. The workshop fee of €180 will be credited against the enrollment fee. Studies begin in the autumn semester (September).
