Not a Matter of Course!

Ceremonial presentation of 50 Germany Scholarships and additional funding awards at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences

At Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences, with campuses in Alfter and Mannheim, a total of 50 Germany Scholarships were awarded to students for the autumn semester 2025/26. In addition, other students received awards – including the 2025 DAAD Prize for Nico Dahlhausen, a full scholarship from Braunschweiger Privatbank for Thea Uecker, as well as four scholarships from the AIB Foundation for international art students and three Karin Halft Scholarships. The ceremonial presentation of the certificates took place on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, in the foyer of Campus II – Villestraße in Alfter, in the presence of Dr. Rolf Schumacher and Christian Lanzrath, former and new mayor of the town of Alfter.

University Rector Prof. Dr. Thomas Maschke warmly congratulated the scholarship holders and prize winners. He emphasized: “Scholarships are not something to be taken for granted: they recognize outstanding academic achievement and exceptional social commitment. They create freedom and enable students to take responsibility and shape new ideas – in the arts as well as in social life.” Michael Schröder, Chancellor of Alanus University, also highlighted the students’ commitment and at the same time thanked the sponsors for their support. “You are the ones who make dreams come true. Your investment in our students is also an investment in the future of society.”

Since the program was introduced in 2012, more than 380 students at Alanus University have received a Germany Scholarship. The funding amounts to 300 euros per month and is awarded for one year at a time. It is financed equally through funds from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and contributions from private sponsors and companies. In addition to outstanding academic performance, social commitment as well as social, family and personal circumstances are also taken into account in the selection process.

This year’s sponsors of the Germany Scholarships include, among others, the Academy for Applied Acting Arts Bonn, Alanus Foundation, Association of Waldorf Schools, Dennree GmbH, Emil Molt Foundation, Fassbender Foundation, Friends’ Association of Alanus University, Kreissparkasse Köln, Meyer-Köring Rechtsanwälte und Steuerberater, Phönix Reisen, Schöllgen Haustechnik GmbH, Foundation of VR-Bank Bonn, Supporting Organization for Humanities Education, Business Development Alfter, as well as the private donor Arnhild Beysiegel.
