11/10/2023 - Around 400 first-year students began their studies at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences in the autumn semester 2023/24. To mark the occasion, a colorful program took place on 25 September at Campus II – Villestraße.

As part of the welcome ceremony with Alfter Mayor Dr. Rolf Schumacher, moderated by student Carolin Ziegler (Business & Acting degree program), Rector Hans-Joachim Pieper warmly welcomed the newly enrolled students and introduced them to studying at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences. “This year, we are celebrating our anniversary: 50 years of Alanus. The opening is therefore a special moment not only for first-year students. From the very beginning, our university has placed great importance on personal development and exchange with one another – and that has not changed to this day,” said Pieper.
The university stands for mindfulness and sustainability, with people and their interaction with others at the center. Pieper also sees this as a special asset of Alanus: “Alongside a good education, the most valuable part of studying is encountering and exchanging ideas with other people.” At a small university like Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences, there are many opportunities for this. Dr. Rolf Schumacher, Mayor of Alfter, adds: “I hope that you will let yourselves be shaped by the inspiring atmosphere of Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences and that in future you will contribute to society. Be courageous, try things out, and think outside the box, entirely in the spirit of the universal scholar Alanus ab Insulis, after whom the university is named.”
A total of around 2,000 students are now studying in more than 20 degree programs, ranging from Architecture and Fine Arts to Business Administration, at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences in Alfter as well as at the study center in Mannheim. Interdisciplinary study continues to be supported by the Studium Generale program. In addition, there are many interdisciplinary degree programs such as Business & Acting. New this semester is Business & Philosophy.
