The war in Ukraine is also affecting and concerning the students, lecturers, and staff at Alanus University. As a result, a wide range of initiatives and support services have already emerged here through which we want to provide help and enable exchange.

Successful, for example, was the online forum “Talking to Children About War!?” with more than 300 participants. The event was initiated by Chancellor and education expert Myrle Dziak-Mahler and organized together with Prof. Dr. Stefanie Greubel from the Institute of Childhood Education. In doing so, they responded at short notice to the new challenging situation facing parents and educators in how to deal with children. The online panel discussion “Building Bridges in War” also quickly created a forum for dialogue with experts in democracy and war research. Together with numerous participants, they discussed the questions of what an appropriate political response to the situation might look like and whether militarization is the only way. An initiative by Gerriet Schwen, research associate at the Institute for Philosophical and Aesthetic Education, in cooperation with Pioneers of Change. Our art students also came up with something special: as part of the benefit exhibition “solidArt” at Fabrik 45 in Bonn, they sold their artworks and donated the proceeds for refugees of the war in Ukraine to the intercultural meeting center MIGRApolis.
