Hans-Joachim Pieper, Rector of Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences, has appointed Simone Orb as Professor in the master’s degree program in Art Therapy.
Simone Orb’s work in theater led her to art therapy: As a graduate master student in stage and costume design, the Munich native developed an interest in the artistic exploration of biographical crises that can shape and dramatically alter a life. Based on the question of the different means by which art can give form to emotions in order to better cope with life crises, she completed a postgraduate program in art therapy at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in 1995. This was followed by teaching assignments as an art therapist at various art academies throughout Germany, as well as projects with patients at numerous psychiatric and psychotherapeutic clinics in Munich and Berlin.
“There I discovered that the combination of art and drama therapy can, for example, open up new body-centered experiential spaces for autistic children and significantly promote their social interaction with other people,” Orb says.
