Federal government funds “re:connect – Incubator for Regenerative Business”

The project co-initiated by the REGWI Institute at Alanus University promotes the future viability of companies.

Regeneration is the key concept behind the project “re:connect – Incubator for Regenerative Business” run by the REGWI Institute for Regenerative Business, an affiliated institute of Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences, in cooperation with fiveP eG. The project supports a total of sixty start-ups as well as small and medium-sized enterprises on their path toward a future-viable and common-good-oriented economy. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action is supporting the project with 1.25 million euros from the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus).

The transition to a regenerative economy is necessary in order to respect planetary boundaries and use existing resources responsibly. To achieve this, it is essential to cultivate conscious reconnections between people and nature. But what exactly does “regenerative” mean? Put simply, a regenerative economic system aims to preserve and restore natural resources rather than deplete them. “This is exactly where re:connect comes in,” explains Alanus professor and Academic Managing Director of the REGWI Institute, Prof. Dr. Stephan Hankammer. “Our team supports the participating companies in strengthening their corporate culture, business models, and ecosystems and in advancing as pioneers of the regenerative economy.” The paradigm shift toward a regenerative economy is necessary to secure the long-term success of companies. Start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular often have fewer resources available to make the leap toward regenerative sustainability. Yet these very systems hold especially valuable potential.

More impact for pioneers of the regenerative economy
With “re:connect,” REGWI and fiveP offer a comprehensive program for common-good-oriented start-ups and companies. Through education, networking, and individualized support, the aim is to create the foundation for the regenerative development of these companies. The blended learning program is complemented by individualized process support. In this way, companies develop regenerative leadership skills and resilient structures.

Larger companies can also get involved in the project as sponsors, thereby not only strengthening their own business but also having a positive influence on their supply chain. This model not only provides valuable impulses for their own corporate development, but also promotes sustainable transformation across the entire sector.
