A journey from the Late Romantic period to the present day

The eurythmy students and the stage ensemble of Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences will present their current stage program in May 2026 as part of a tour with several stops across Germany. The performances are aimed at a broad audience – from pupils and teachers to anyone who would like to experience eurythmy live.

The new stage project is being created through close collaboration between students and the professional ensemble and brings a multifaceted program of music and speech to the stage. At its core is the question of how sound, emotion, and meaning can be made visible through movement.

A special focus is placed on the work “Middelheim” by Giya Kancheli. This haunting composition, created in the 1990s, thrives on quiet, expansive sonic spaces and sudden emotional intensifications. In the arrangement for violin, cello, and piano, the music unfolds with great inwardness, becoming an intense experience of movement in its eurythmic interpretation.

The Late Romantic trio “Quasi una Ballata” by Vítězslav Novák forms a richly contrasting counterpart. With its narrative musical language, the work combines musical drama with lyrical passages and opens up a rich space for dynamic and vivid expression in eurythmy.

The program is complemented by the speech-art work “Rede und Nachrede” by Ingeborg Bachmann. This postwar text offers a powerful reflection on the possibilities and limits of language and sets a deliberately chosen counterpoint to the music: here, the work is not only shaped, but also questioned – what can language express, and where does its silence begin?

The result is an evening full of tension between Romantic richness of sound, contemporary sonic reduction, and linguistic reflection – an artistic dialogue that makes music visible and language physically tangible.
