The module “Construction Law/Construction Economics” provides fundamental knowledge of the legal and economic aspects of construction. It covers topics such as construction contract law, approval procedures, liability issues, as well as the planning and management of construction costs. The aim is to provide students with the necessary knowledge to design construction projects both in legal compliance and in an economically efficient manner.

Design STUDIO II – Fundamentals of Design (Bachelor, 2nd semester)
The central theme of the design studio this semester will be developing future perspectives and designing visionary spaces. How do we want to live in the future? How do we want to dwell? In a very concrete and three-dimensional way, diverse forms of housing and models of living are to be artistically designed and built.

Design STUDIO IV: Building Typology (Bachelor, 4th semester)
Our semester project focuses on village development and tests the urban development master plan using a specific construction task dealing with preserving existing buildings and reusing construction materials, but also with demolition and significant densification on a building site at Oberstraße 35. The project aims to engage with the various resources available on site and develop a design project from them.

Graphic Design (Bachelor, 6th semester)
Graphic design in architecture encompasses the visual design of concepts, plans, and presentations in order to communicate architectural ideas clearly and attractively. It includes the creation of 3D renderings, plans, diagrams, branding, and marketing materials that are both functional and aesthetic. The aim is to present complex information in an understandable way and to communicate architecture visually.

Technology STUDIO IV – Building Technology (Bachelor, 4th semester)
The aim of the Building Technology module is the spatial, structural, and material-specific development of the sustainable design concept for the existing building in Bürgewald. The focus is on the integrated relationship between material, use, and construction. Together, we will develop a detailed elaboration of the design with a conscious selection of materials, structures, and building techniques at scales from 1:50 to 1:20, as well as a building component model at a scale of 1:1.

Vacant lots are conspicuous examples of urban planning deficits in most cities. However, they also represent immense potential for inner-city development—whether by closing the gap, through active architectural design, or through artistic use. The aim of the design task is to develop a building concept for the construction of a residential and commercial building on a vacant lot in Bonn. In terms of content, urban space, construction, and architecture, the design idea should meet the needs of its users.

magLAB II – Architecture & Resources (Master, 2nd semester)
The aim of the module is the spatial-functional as well as architecturally and structurally-technical development of an architectural design for the use areas Workshop / Art / Horticulture and Kindergarten in place of the subproject Workshop & Art House, which was halted in 2023. This complex usage program suggests a possibly entirely different design approach [than previously pursued]. In the sense of a qualified, design-based feasibility study, the school hopes to obtain planning foundations from the student cooperation project for the subsequent [structural] strategic decision.

Entanglements. Philosophical reading course on New Materialism
“New Materialism” understands reality as a dynamic web of relationships in which it is not only humans who are active. Matter has a life of its own—and is thus more than ‘mere’ matter, raw material, or object. Boundaries in general become permeable, allowing nature, technology, and art to enter into exciting, fruitful, and challenging entanglements. In the seminar session on 26 May, we will likely discuss a text by philosopher Rosi Braidotti.
