This postgraduate continuing education programme is not an art therapy training programme and does not replace an academic degree (BA / MA).

Introduction to PENTAGRAM trauma work  (online)

Content

This online introductory and information event provides an initial overview of PENTAGRAM trauma work and makes key elements of PENTAGRAM trauma work tangible through imagination, self-experience, and creative exercises – and, if applicable, short discussion rounds in small groups. There will also be space to ask questions about the further training programmes in PENTAGRAM trauma pedagogy and PENTAGRAM trauma therapy.

Anyone interested can take part. If you subsequently register for the first year of further training in PENTAGRAM trauma pedagogy, the fee for the online event will be credited toward the continuing education fee. Participation in the introductory and information event is not a necessary prerequisite for registering for the further training programmes in PENTAGRAM trauma pedagogy and trauma therapy. However, it can support your decision-making and/or be used for orientation and preparation for the further training.

Introduction to the theoretical foundations and phase structure of PENTAGRAM trauma work and to key stabilization, imagination, and integration techniques of the method as well as to Waldorf-oriented emergency educational acute trauma support

• THEORETICAL INTRODUCTION to the topics of trauma, trauma-related disorders, resilience, protective and risk factors, resource orientation, measures for protection from overwhelm, and the foundations of Waldorf-oriented PENTAGRAM trauma pedagogy and trauma therapy.
• An overview of the 5 PHASES of PENTAGRAM trauma work: the 3 STABILIZATION phases, the therapeutically supported phase of TRAUMA ENCOUNTER, and the optional phase of TRAUMA TRANSFORMATION.
• Introduction to guided IMAGINATION work: the EAGLE-LUCK-POINTS IMAGINATION and other POSITIVITY, GRATITUDE, and CONFIDENCE exercises.
• A first important STABILIZATION exercise: the RESOURCE CIRCLE EXERCISE as a highly effective, broadly applicable basic exercise for Waldorf-oriented trauma-pedagogical work.
• Getting to know a first important INTEGRATION technique: the BUTTERFLY HUG technique from EMDR as a broadly applicable, including child-friendly, highly effective aid to processing.
• Introduction to Waldorf-oriented EMERGENCY EDUCATION. Distribution of presentation topics on practical possibilities for Waldorf-oriented emergency educational acute support.

In Module I, there will also be a first opportunity for participants in the further training group to get to know each other, to clarify any remaining organizational questions, to form small groups for presentations and exercises, and to begin an experience-based orientation toward the important topic of personal self-care and burnout prevention. We will also assign the supervision groups. On Saturday, as at every further training weekend, there will be a shared lunch, a meditative walk with self-care exercise guidance, and in the evening a specialist lecture, a themed discussion round, or a specialist film followed by discussion.

INTERDISCIPLINARY EXTENSION
Introduction to trauma-sensitive MUSIC THERAPY. Simple exercises with instruments, voice, and rhythm as a possible musical extension of trauma-pedagogical work.

2. Module I is expected to be supported by music and singing therapist and certified Pentagram trauma pedagogue Monika Gramm (invited) from Seewalde. With her, among other things, we will learn how to incorporate harmonious sounds as an “ideal means of transport into the fairy-tale world of the soul” and learn healing stabilization exercises from trauma-sensitive music therapy that we – even as possible musical laypersons – can integrate into our trauma-pedagogical work for our own self-care and for the stabilization of those affected.

Introduction to the essential prerequisites for safe and sustainably effective trauma work: “physical and social safety,” “outer stability,” and “inner stability.” Dialogical imagination work: introduction to the ego-state concept (“parts work”) and to working with the “inner child”

• The importance of “PHYSICAL and SOCIAL SAFETY” and the importance of social belonging and outer and inner rootedness in trauma work.
• The 3 essential prerequisites for stable outer and social safety.
• Preview: the significance of “OUTER STABILITY” and “INNER STABILITY” in trauma work.
• Basic skills: introduction to the “BIG FIVE” of healing counselor qualities in trauma work.
• Deepening healing imagination images and guided imagination journeys: THE SHELL-PEARL IMAGE and the HEALING JOURNEY FOR THE INNER CHILD.
• Introduction to the EGO-STATE concept and to trauma-pedagogical work with the “INNER CHILD” with practical exercises.
• On the opportunities, possibilities, and limits of Waldorf-oriented emergency and trauma pedagogy in group and individual settings. Preview of possibilities for emergency intervention with modified EMDR protocols.
• First presentations on practical possibilities of Waldorf-oriented emergency education.

In Module II, there will also be a continued process of growing together within the further training group. On Saturday there will again be a shared lunch, a meditative walk with self-care exercise guidance, and in the evening a specialist lecture, a themed discussion round, or a specialist film followed by discussion.

INTERDISCIPLINARY EXTENSION
1. Specialist lectures with Dr. med. Hartmut Horn, pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist and physician for psychosomatic medicine, psychotherapy, and naturopathy, on neurobiological foundations, emergency education and trauma psychotherapy, as well as complementary naturopathic support options from anthroposophic medicine.
2. Practical introduction to trauma-sensitive art therapy as a possible artistic extension of trauma-pedagogical work with art therapist Annikki Glage.

The importance of “outer stability” and “inner stability” for safe and sustainably effective trauma work. The “elephant exercise” and the “tree imagination in the room” as well as further possibilities for stabilization and resource mobilization. Introduction to work with highly effective stabilization and anchoring techniques

• Deepening the essential prerequisites for sustainably effective trauma work.
• The so-called “elephant exercise” as a diagnostic, counseling, and coaching tool for work on “OUTER STABILITY”.
• Introduction to the ego-strengthening and stabilizing imagination and embodiment exercise “TREE IMAGINATION IN THE ROOM”.
• Deepening imaginative and play-therapeutic STABILIZATION work with special trauma-pedagogical PLAY, THERAPY, and CREATIVE MATERIALS from PENTAGRAM trauma work as well as practical exercises for imaginative and play-therapeutic resource mobilization.
• Introduction to the application of the highly effective anchoring and integration techniques “BASK” and “BILATERAL STIMULATION / BUTTERFLY HUG” for anchoring resource and stabilization images.
• Further presentations on the practical possibilities of Waldorf-oriented emergency education.

Final intensive week PENTAGRAM trauma pedagogy:

“Royal roads” in trauma-pedagogical PENTAGRAM work: finding a resource-rich, solution-oriented, and integrative narrative using BASK and BS / Butterfly Hug from EMDR and applying modified EMDR protocols for gentle yet highly effective trauma-pedagogical or emergency-pedagogical support for affected children, adolescents, and/or adults in group and individual settings. Exercises and case work as well as certification discussions in small groups

• Deepening the 5 essential ASPECTS of INNER PSYCHIC STABILIZATION.
• Deepening trauma-pedagogical stabilization work with the help of DISTANCING and SEPARATION TECHNIQUES (overwhelm protection techniques).
• The importance of ADVANCED RESOURCE EXERCISES as important trauma-pedagogical diagnostic, counseling, and coaching tools for reviewing and supporting inner stability.
• Advanced resource exercises with Matryoshka dolls in the THERAPEUTIC SAND TRAY and along a laid-out TIME LINE.
• Advanced PROTECTIVE IMAGINATIONS as preparation for solution-oriented, integrative trauma-pedagogical work.
• Working with the “OBSERVER”, the “INNER SAFE PLACE”, and the “SAFE”, as well as with the instance of “INNER WISDOM” and other “IMAGINATIVE HELPER BEINGS”.
• Initial work with a TRAUMA MAP with symbolized periods of stress and trauma situations.

Larissa Stierlin-Doctor, psychotherapist and PENTAGRAM trauma pedagogue and trauma therapist: imaginative ego-state work and work with the “inner team,” neurobiological foundations and neurobiologically grounded basic exercises from body- and mindfulness-based trauma work, as well as biographical self-experience exercises on the “5 fields of a fulfilled life” according to Friedemann Schulz von Thun.

2. MUSIC AND RHYTHM EXERCISES from trauma-sensitive music therapy for physical relief, stabilization, and regeneration – also for personal self-care. With music therapist and PENTAGRAM– trauma pedagogue and trauma therapist Stefanie Trikojat-Klein.

In Module I of the 2nd year of further training, there will also be a reunion within the further training group, clarification of any remaining organizational questions, the formation of small groups for presentations and exercises, and renewed orientation toward the important topic of personal self-care and burnout prevention.

In trauma-therapeutic work, and especially in the phase of trauma encounter, we as therapists are also confronted more intensely with the suffering of those affected. On the one hand, this work requires a high degree of supportive and empathetic ability; on the other hand, it also requires a high degree of boundary-setting ability and skills that enable us to take good care of our own self-care needs even in stressful professional situations. The following also applies to therapists: for trauma-confrontational work, they should bring along and/or acquire sufficient abilities and skills to care for their own parts that are in need of comfort and that may be activated by confronting the suffering of clients.

Final intensive week in Hamburg PENTAGRAM trauma therapy

Introduction to the theoretical foundations of EMDR and introduction to the preparation and conduct of trauma encounter sessions using the EMDR standard protocol and other modified EMDR protocols. EMDR protocols for children and adolescents. Exercises and case work on working with EMDR protocols as well as certification discussions in small groups

• Preparations for conducting EMDR sessions.
• Initial exercises on the EMDR standard protocol according to Francine Shapiro.
• Initial exercises on modified EMDR protocols for children and adolescents.
• Introduction to kinesiologically supported trauma-confrontational work with the PENTAGRAM method and/or the extended PENTAGRAM method with integrated EMDR protocols.
• Introduction, demonstration, and exercises for conducting a trauma encounter with EMDR.
• Deepening: possibilities for working with modified EMDR protocols. Additional techniques in working with EMDR.
• Introduction to work with selective bilateral stimulation within classical PENTAGRAM work and with various modified EMDR protocols for children and adolescents.
• Demonstration and exercises with selectively applied, modified EMDR techniques.
• Deepening the possibilities of kinesiologically supported work with PENTAGRAM and EMDR techniques.

Outlook: The trauma transformation phase as the optional 5th phase of PENTAGRAM trauma therapy. Support in the search for meaning in what has been suffered through, for example, constellation work, ritual work, biography work, and karma work and/or through pastoral and other spiritual support options.

Further presentations on the possibilities of trauma-therapeutic support using external applications from anthroposophic medicine and artistic exercises.

Artistic therapists with a successfully completed university degree, a comparable qualification, or corresponding suitability gained through professional experience. In addition: physicians, psychologists, educators, special education teachers, social pedagogues, and social workers, as well as social therapists, body, movement, and speech therapists, and interested persons from related professional fields such as health and nursing professionals, occupational therapists, and midwives.

Interested lay helpers who work voluntarily with traumatized people, as well as foster and adoptive parents of traumatized children and adolescents, may also participate in the further training programmes in PENTAGRAM trauma pedagogy and PENTAGRAM trauma therapy after a preliminary consultation, provided they have appropriate professional and/or personal suitability and prior experience in supporting traumatized children, adolescents, and/or adults. This should be clarified before registration for the further training in a preliminary meeting/phone call with the academic lead of the programme.

The further training is suitable both for professional groups who work educationally and/or therapeutically with children and adolescents and for professional groups who support adults medically, educationally, or therapeutically.

Certification in PENTAGRAM trauma pedagogy at the end of the 1st year of further training is a prerequisite for participation in the second year of further training in PENTAGRAM trauma therapy.

For certification in PENTAGRAM trauma pedagogy and certification in PENTAGRAM trauma therapy, in each case 2 case documentations and 8 teaching units each (45 minutes each) of supervision in PENTAGRAM trauma work in a small group must be demonstrated.
Supervision can be taken in connection with the further training weekends (in each case on Friday from 11-12:30 or 12:30-14:00 before the start of the further training weekend on the 2nd and 3rd further training weekends) and in connection with the further training intensive week (on Tuesday from 11-12:30 or 12:30-14:00 before the start of the intensive week as well as on Friday from 11-12:30 or 12:30-14:00 during the intensive week) or alternatively in one of the supervision groups for PENTAGRAM trauma work in Hamburg (always on the 1st Monday of a month 7-9:30 pm or on the 1st Saturday of a month 10-11:30 am or 11:30 am-1 pm or 1x/quarter 4 teaching units compact on a Saturday). Costs: €40 per double teaching unit of supervision, i.e. €160 (4x€40 for 4 double teaching units) per year of further training.

For students of Alanus University, we would like to enable participation in continuing education programmes at a 50% discount. A limited contingent is available for each further training programme. Assistance in the form of supporting the lecturers is required in this case. University certificates are excluded from discounting.
