Dual master's degree program: Study in Alfter, work for the town of Bergheim
Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences and the district town of Bergheim have agreed on a cooperation for the joint training of students within the Master’s degree program in Architecture. The two-year program starts on 1 September 2021 at Alanus University, while the practical work will take place in the Planning and Environment Department of the Bergheim city administration: Students will work at the town hall one day a week and study at the university in Alfter four days a week. Among other things, they will work on projects from the city administration together with their lecturers.
“We look forward to developing meaningful and sustainable plans and ideas for the town and the region together with the town of Bergheim,” says Benedikt Stahl, Dean of the Department of Architecture at Alanus University. The district town of Bergheim is of particular interest to Alanus University because of its location in the Rhenish mining area and its direct exposure to structural change. After the state capital Düsseldorf, the district town of Bergheim is the second municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia to offer such a cooperation in the sense of a dual study program. “This cooperation is a win-win situation for all of us. We expect it to provide further positive impetus for Bergheim’s urban development and structural change projects. At the same time, the practice-oriented training of students is not only an added value for the district town of Bergheim, but above all for the students themselves. In this way, they can apply their theoretical knowledge at an early stage and undergo much more intensive professional development,” says Mayor Volker Mießeler.
