Dual Architecture Degree Program: Alanus University cooperates with the City of Elsdorf
31.03.2022 - Alanus University and the City of Elsdorf have agreed on a cooperation for the joint training of students within the Master's degree program in Architecture.
Alanus University and the City of Elsdorf have agreed on a cooperation for the joint training of students within the Master's degree program in Architecture.
The two-year Master’s degree program begins on 1 September 2022 at Alanus University: one day a week, students will work at the city hall and study four days a week at the university in Alfter. “The shortage of skilled professionals is also hitting city administrations hard, so we want to explore new ways of attracting staff. At the same time, with the current future planning for the open-cast mining areas, we can offer our emerging academics an exciting and almost unique project setting,” explains Mayor Andreas Heller. Elsdorf is located directly next to the Hambach open-cast mine in the Rhenish lignite mining region.
Hans-Joachim Pieper, Rector of Alanus University, highlights the benefits for everyone involved: “Even in their study projects, students work on current issues and specific planning tasks. In this way, they make a directly usable contribution to the work of the cooperation partners. In addition, the city contributes to the development of suitable topics that are addressed in courses as part of the Master’s degree program.”
After the state capital Düsseldorf and the district capital Bergheim, Elsdorf is the third municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia to offer such a cooperation in the sense of a dual study program.
