The Department of Educational Sciences at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences and Freie Waldorfschule Bonn are consolidating and intensifying their long-standing collaboration. As part of the anniversary summer festival celebrating the 50th anniversary of Freie Waldorfschule Bonn on June 11, 2022, Prof. Dr. Jost Schieren, Dean of the Department of Educational Sciences, and Jörg Bothe, spokesperson for the school association’s board, ceremonially signed a cooperation agreement.

The cooperation offers a major opportunity for both institutions. School and university work hand in hand: on the one hand, pupils at Waldorfschule Bonn are given opportunities to sit in on courses in the degree programs at Alanus University with a view to their later choice of studies. On the other hand, teaching degree and Waldorf education students at Alanus University can gain their first practical experience at Waldorfschule Bonn.
In addition, teachers at the Waldorfschule have the opportunity to take part in profession-specific continuing education courses offered by the Department of Educational Sciences. Theory and practice are thus brought into closer connection. Moreover, practice-oriented research projects are planned on the part of Alanus University: an important step for the academic study and support of Waldorf education.

In his speech, Jost Schieren expressed the hope that numerous graduates of Alanus University would continue to become part of the teaching staff at Freie Waldorfschule Bonn in the future. Even today, graduates and students (see pictures) of Alanus University can already be found among the teaching staff and especially among the assistant teachers.
Jörg Bothe emphasized: “We are very pleased that in our anniversary year we are now also formally concluding our cooperation, which we have already had with Alanus University for a long time, through this agreement. For us, this is a wonderful foundation for the many further ideas that we want to develop and implement together with Alanus University over the coming years.”

After the ceremonial signing of the cooperation agreement, signposts for the future collaboration were presented: teachers at Waldorfschule Bonn had created two wooden signs pointing to the other respective location, so that in future they will also be found at both places as a very tangible symbol of the cooperation.
