100 years young and still as tempting as ever: To mark the Goldbears anniversary, students at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences came up with all kinds of creative ideas.

They submitted more than 70 designs for the limited Goldbears Design Edition planned by HARIBO as part of a design competition. HARIBO is now launching the 450 g tin in the shape of a Goldbear in stores with six cheerful, colorful designs. The winners are Lena Arens, Andrew Friedrich, Carlos Herrera, Paul Uhlenbrock and Daniela Schäfer, who impressed with two designs. In addition to nationwide attention, they will each receive prize money of 1,000 euros per design.

The Goldbears Design Edition in cooperation with Alanus University is the first HARIBO product designed by art students and then distributed nationwide in stores. The task was to develop a digital layout for a contemporary and creative lid design for the HARIBO Goldbears shaped tin. So that the artists could express themselves as freely as possible, there were only a few restrictions from the Goldbear manufacturer; only the core HARIBO elements such as the logo and font were fixed. If used, the world-famous Goldbear with the red bow also had to remain unchanged. Participants from the Department of Fine Arts were able to create and submit several design drafts under the direction of Prof. Dr. Ulrika Eller-Rüter.

“With the Design Edition, we wanted to give our Goldbears a particularly beautiful gift for their 100th birthday. The students achieved that with their designs! It was great fun to see how much talent and childlike joy the artists brought to developing the creative ideas,” says Nina Schmidt, Head of Brand Management HARIBO Germany.

The limited HARIBO Goldbears Design Edition will be available in stores, in HARIBO stores and in the HARIBO online shop from September 2022. The six winning designs will be exhibited at the HARIBO City Store in Bonn for several weeks starting on 12 August. For the opening of the exhibition, the Goldbears Design Editions will be available exclusively before the official promotion starts.
