Alanus University students support the global climate strike on 23 September

Climate protection is not a luxury issue; it is about human lives! A student initiative is mobilising the students and staff of Alanus University for the Fridays for Future climate strike on 23 September in Bonn.

This year’s strike motto, “People not Profit”, is particularly close to the hearts of Alanus students and the university management. The Green Office was recently established to further promote the many sustainable projects and initiatives at the university. The Green Office is coordinated by the Rectorate’s new Sustainability Officer, Ruben Greif, who will join the climate strike on Friday and, together with student spokesperson Aaron Bangert, will be available for press enquiries. To ensure that as many students and staff as possible can once again take part this year, the entire Faculty of Business, which focuses on sustainability and social justice, has also already cancelled and postponed all classes on that day.

Prof. Dr Hans Joachim Pieper, Rector of Alanus University, says: “The motto of this year’s demonstration, ‘People not Profits’, fully reflects the mission statement of our university. I am delighted if many Alanus students and staff show their presence in support of a sustainable society and a determined climate policy!”

Mila Graf, a student at Alanus University, adds: “In these uncertain times, we need many people in all areas to stand up for climate protection – including at the university. That is why I am glad that, with Professor Pieper, we have a rector who shares this commitment. We will therefore once again cooperate with the university at the next ‘Public Climate School’, which will take place from 7 to 11 November with a diverse programme of events and activities on the topic of climate justice.”

Meeting point for the climate strike for all students and staff is at 10:40 a.m. in front of the Protestant Kreuzkirche (Kaiserplatz 1a), directly opposite the Hofgarten. From there, the group will head together shortly before eleven to the demonstration in the Hofgarten.
