Around 400 first-year students began their studies in Alfter at Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences. To mark the occasion, a colorful program took place at Campus II – Villestraße.
As part of the welcome ceremony with Alfter’s Mayor Dr. Rolf Schumacher, which was moderated by student Jacqueline Weihe, Rector Hans-Joachim Pieper, together with Chancellor Myrle Dziak-Mahler, warmly welcomed the newly enrolled students and introduced them to studying at Alanus University. In the new semester, most events will once again take place in person, which the faculty and the newcomers alike are very pleased about. “Because some of the most valuable aspects of studying are meeting and exchanging ideas with other people,” said Pieper. At a small university like Alanus University, there would be many opportunities for this.
In this context, he also emphasizes what makes the university special: “At Alanus University, we place great value on personal development – and this succeeds even better when we meet and inspire one another.” The university stands for mindfulness and sustainability; here, the focus is on people and their responsibility in their interactions with others.
“I hope that you will let yourselves be shaped by the inspiring atmosphere of Alanus University and that in the future you will contribute to society. Be courageous, try things out, and look beyond your own horizon, entirely in keeping with the universal scholar Alanus ab Insulis, the university’s namesake,” Mayor Schumacher told the students.
Of the approximately 400 first-year students, more than 280 are beginning a bachelor’s degree in Alfter. Around 120 students are starting a master’s degree here. This brings the total number of students to about 2,000 across more than 20 degree programs at Alanus University in Alfter and at the study center in Mannheim, ranging from Architecture and Fine Arts to Business Administration.
