How do bees live? The artistic responses of the young participants in the Alanus workshop are part of the final exhibition of the project “We Are Creating the Future”

As part of the project “We Are Creating the Future!” run by the cultural offices of the City of Bonn and the Rhein-Sieg district, the participants were able to discover new creative paths toward sustainable living through the means of visual art.

Alanus University, together with Alanus Europäisches Forum e.V., also took part in the project by organizing a workshop on bees with the children’s home “Maria im Walde.” The results of the workshop will be presented to the public at the Pumpwerk in Siegburg from November 18 to December 2.
How do bees live and what do they need? How are honey and wax produced? What do beekeepers do? To approach the workshop topic “Buzz, buzz, buzz, little bee buzz around,” the young participants learned many interesting facts about the bee colony living there during a visit to the Haus der Natur in Bonn. In the subsequent artistic exploration, the children and young people were supported by arts educator Susann Meister-Duddeck and students from the Childhood Education program at Alanus University. Professor Stefanie Greubel (Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences) and Stefanie Gather (Alanus Europäisches Forum für Interkulturellen Dialog e.V.) were responsible for implementing the workshop.
The cooperative project “We Are Creating the Future! Artistic Research – with Young People on the Path to Sustainability” was aimed at children, adolescents, and young adults between the ages of five and 21. The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, by the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR), and by the district savings bank foundation of the Rhein-Sieg district.
