Fairtrade Germany has awarded Alanus University the title of “Fairtrade University” for the third time in a row. We are very pleased and see this award as an opportunity to further strengthen awareness of fair trade and concrete projects on our campuses.
To be allowed to bear the title, a university must demonstrably meet five criteria that prove its commitment to fair trade. These include the university making a joint commitment to promoting fair trade through a university resolution and establishing a steering group at the university. In addition, fairly traded products should be sold at events and used in catering services. The final criterion requires the university to actively engage in public relations work around the topic of fair trade.
The Fairtrade group at Alanus University is active in numerous projects and, among other things, will screen the feature film “Made in Bangladesh” on 25 April at Campus II, about a young textile worker who succeeds in standing up against discrimination . The event takes place in cooperation with FEMNET, the Bonn-based association for women’s rights in the clothing industry. Everyone interested is warmly welcome!
