In the autumn semester 2025, a joint Bachelor of Arts degree program in “Art-Education-Therapy” will begin.

It is official: the cooperation between Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences in Alfter near Bonn and the Chinese Lishui University for a joint Bachelor of Arts degree program in “Art-Education-Therapy” has been confirmed by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Students at Lishui University now have the opportunity to earn a double degree.

In May, a delegation from Alanus University, consisting of Chancellor Michael Schröder, Rector Prof. Dr. Thomas Maschke and Dean of the Department of Fine Arts Prof. Johannes Brunner, visited the Chinese Lishui University to seal the cooperation between the two universities. Starting in the winter semester 2025, students at Lishui University will have the opportunity, as part of their four-year degree program and after completing a German course, to come to Alanus University in Alfter for one year. At the end of their studies, they will receive both a Chinese and a German degree certificate – a valuable enrichment for their professional future. Prof. Dr. Thomas Maschke emphasizes: “We look forward to a successful collaboration and the diverse cultural encounters and exchange opportunities that this cooperation will bring!”

Lishui is a prefecture in Zhejiang Province, China. It is known for the production of Longquan celadon ceramics, a special type of ceramic with a green glaze that is typical of the region and is listed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. With a forest coverage rate of 79.9%, Lishui is also one of the greenest cities in the country. Sustainability is addressed here in various areas, including through the expansion of solar energy.

Under the motto “Be wise, Be truthful, Be healthy,” Lishui University is home to a wide range of departments such as ecology, teacher education, business, and health sciences with an affiliated university hospital. The Department of Art is dedicated to acting and music as well as disciplines of the fine arts. In fine arts classes in China, calligraphy and traditional ink painting are also part of foundational training, creating exciting and valuable synergies for the artistic development of Alanus students.
