New Master’s in “Music Therapy” at Alanus University starts in spring 2026

Starting in the spring semester of 2026, Alanus University will offer the new part-time Master’s in “Music Therapy”.

Music can relieve pain, reduce anxiety, and support developmental processes. Numerous studies, also relied upon by the World Health Organization (WHO), demonstrate its therapeutic benefits. Starting in the spring semester of 2026, Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences is responding to the growing demand for qualified professionals by offering the new part-time Master’s degree program in “Music Therapy” at its campus in Alfter near Bonn. Students will learn how to use music specifically as a tool for healing and personal development and how to shape therapeutic processes creatively.

According to Prof. Eva Paul, Head of the Department of Artistic Therapies at Alanus University, this creates a degree program that provides practical instruction in how therapeutic work with music stimulates healing processes and promotes well-being and health in many areas of life and work. The part-time program enables working professionals to continue their qualifications flexibly. It is based on an arts-based integrative approach with an anthroposophical orientation that works complementarily to conventional medicine and places each person’s potential for development at the center. Students gain qualifications for numerous professional fields and, after completing the program, work in areas including special education and social therapy institutions, psychosomatic and psychiatric clinics, pediatrics, oncology, palliative medicine, hospices, as well as in outpatient practice.
