The Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences in Alfter near Bonn offers, in cooperation with the Chilean continuing education institute EFA (Educación, Filosofía y Arte), the certificate course “Foreign Language Teaching at Spanish-Speaking Waldorf Schools”. In January 2026, 26 students from seven countries met for the second block week of the course on the sunny campus of the Waldorf school Colegio Micael in Santiago de Chile.
The program included foundation seminars on Waldorf education, foreign language didactics, artistic courses and exercises, as well as numerous opportunities to share teaching experiences among participants from different countries. Many students already have practical experience in foreign language teaching, which led to a lively exchange.
Before the in-person phase concluded, feedback forms were completed and group discussions were held in order to gather participants’ experiences, expectations, and wishes. The results will be incorporated into the further development of the certificate course. “The block weeks make it possible to connect theory and practice directly and to experience international perspectives on foreign language teaching,” emphasizes Prof. Axel Föller-Mancini, head of the course.
The three-year, part-time certificate course is aimed in particular at teachers who would like to teach in Spanish-speaking countries such as those in Latin America or Spain. It combines weekly online seminars with intensive digital and in-person block weeks, with a ten-day in-person phase taking place each year in January in a Latin American country. The aim of the course is to convey the foundations of Waldorf education and to qualify participants for independent teaching activity in the field of foreign languages.
The next block week is planned for January 2027; the venue has not yet been announced. Registration is possible at any time for interested participants.
