Roots & Routes: Founding starts with your own story

On 6 May 2026, Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences invites you to the Digital Hub Bonn: “Roots & Routes” brings together founders, students and the regional scene, showing why personal biographies are the starting point for sustainable entrepreneurship.

Behind “Roots & Routes” lies a simple thesis: start-ups do not emerge in a vacuum, but from personal experiences, ruptures and cultural influences. The event brings together people with different biographies, students and the regional start-up community. The aim is an open exchange about how individual life paths lead to entrepreneurial action and how business models can emerge from them that are economically viable while also creating social impact.

In a keynote, Bianca Yang (Cultural Care) will speak about the role of personal “roots” in the founding process. In the subsequent panel discussion, together with Cynthia Boachie-Tuffour (FemmEFFECT), Alina Skalatska (W-RISE) and other founders, she will discuss how individual experiences can be translated into concrete entrepreneurial strategies. Prof. Dr Stephan Hankammer will also provide a thematic focus. He will present tools for sustainable start-up creation and offer insights into the results of the ERASMUS+-funded W-RISE project, which supports refugee Ukrainian women in particular in building digital and sustainable business models.

The event is part of the projects “SoNaR – Starting socially, creating sustainable impact” (funded by BMWE and ESF+) as well as “W-RISE – Women on the Rise” (ERASMUS+). Both initiatives aim to strengthen sustainable entrepreneurship in the region and open up start-up opportunities to new target groups.

In addition to thematic impulses, “Roots & Routes” offers space for networking and exchange within Bonn’s start-up landscape.
