1999
After almost 30 years of running Alanus as an Further Education institution, initial talks begin with the relevant ministry in Düsseldorf with the aim of gaining state recognition for the Alanus courses and qualifications. The first restructuring of the courses takes place in order to meet national university guidelines.

2002
The University engages in talks with the Ministry of Art and Science in order to gain state recognition as a School of Art in accordance with the university guidelines in North Rhine Westphalia. This recognition is granted on 31/10/2002.

January 2003
The study programmes are adjusted to suit the University’s new status as a state recognised school of art.

April 2003
The Alanus Centre for Further Education is opened, financially supported by the Bonn and Berlin Ausgleichfond.

September 2004
Inauguration of the Alanus Foundation with the aim of giving financial support to the University and its estate.

December 2005
Further new buildings are opened (a sculptors’ yard, artists’ studios, and a meeting hall). The extension work is financed by the Bonn and Berlin Ausgleichfond).

2006
The University decides to convert the curriculum to Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.

October 2006
State accreditation as an ‘academic’ course is granted for the Business Administration course.

May 2007
The Master’s programme in Art Therapy and the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Eurythmy are accredited.

June 2007
The Art Pedagogy course is accredited to Erstes Staatsexamen level (‘First State Examination’ level).

July 2007
Alanus University becomes a fully recognised University

September 2009
The new campus at Villestraße in Alfter is opended

May 2010
In May 2010 the University was awarded the institutional accreditation by the German Scientific Council and was assigned the right to award doctorates.
