The Alanus Foundation (Alanus Stiftung) was founded on 22/09/2004 and was recognised as a legal entity by Cologne District Council on 15/11/2004.
The Foundation is represented by three board members. Currently these are: Helmut Habermehl (Software AG Stiftung), Prof Dr. Götz E. Rehn (Alantura GmbH), Michael Lieberoth-Leden (GLS Treuhand).

The Alanus Foundation is exempt from corporation tax and pursues exclusively charitable purposes. It is the sole owner of the Alanus Hochschule gGmbH, and is the body of ultimate responsible for the University.
The Foundation co-ordinates the network of sponsors for donations and grants.
The Foundation awards scholarships to help students funding their studies at Alanus University.
It is also responsible for the administration of special funds that have been established by donors for specific purposes. These include the
Study.Art.Fund (Studien.Kunst.Fonds) as well as the
Karin Halft Scholarship (Karin Halft Stipendien).
