“Training the artist to become a teacher“

The programme for Art Teacher Training (for high schools and comprehensive schools) started in the Autumn semester of 2007.

This unique study programme is the first one in Germany to offer teacher training with a recognised qualification for state schools and Waldorf schools.

According to government regulations in North Rhine Westphalia, this course can be studied in conjunction with the accompanying educational programme without requiring an additional subject.

The Art Teacher Training programme at Alanus University is characterised by:
  • Strong emphasis on applied and practice-based methods
  • Development of the student’s own individual artistic expression and abilities.
  • A teaching qualification that is built on the foundation of an artistic training.
By drawing on new concepts in Waldorf education, the programme enables the student to study and critically analyse a variety of approaches to the theory and practice of teaching and learning. The programme prepares the student for teaching positions in state secondary schools, comprehensive schools and also in progressive schools such as Waldorf schools.
